Some remarks on, and a new case of the rare os intercuneiforme (Dwight)

Ann Anat. 1997 Aug;179(4):317-20. doi: 10.1016/S0940-9602(97)80066-0.

Abstract

A new case of the rare os intercuneiforme (Dwight) is presented and compared with the two cases reported by the anatomist first describing this bone. Taking a large series of anatomical investigations into account, the frequency of occurrence for this supernumerary tarsal bone can be given as 0.026%. Furthermore, it is supposed that the os intercuneiforme belongs rather to the medial than to the intermediate cuneiform.
