Abstract
A gene, Sojein2, has been cloned that encodes an elicitin from Phytophthora sojae with 81.6-92.9% identity with other elicitins. DNA hybridization analysis indicated that elicitins are encoded by a multigene family in P. sojae. Necrosis tests and elicitin production suggest that elicitins do not contribute to race-specificity in P. sojae.
