Abstract

As many as 50% of medical-surgical patients in major metropolitan medical centers have some degree of protein-calorie malnutrition, which is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Malnutrition affects wound healing in these patients, and nurses must assess and help these patients meet their nutritional needs.
