Parenteral and enteral nutrition: computers and prescribing

Abstract

Some of the important features of modern computing technology are described. The difficulties of demonstrating cost-effective benefits are explained with reference to the prescribing process in hospitals. Some examples of data collection and checking are given and the importance of the computer software is stressed. The potential benefits of drug information/prescribing systems and associated personnel problems are described.
