Abstract

Open heart surgery in the aged is dominated by two groups of procedures: valve surgery and aortocoronary bypass grafting. The indications of coronary arteriography, operative results and postoperative complications are discussed. The important role of the general practitioner in preventing and diminishing risk factors is emphasized.
