A follow-up study of cardiac patients. A preliminary report

S Afr Med J. 1979 Jun 16;55(25):1037-44.

Abstract

Five hundred consecutive admissions to a coronary care unit were studied, and the information was used to gain insight into the patients' background. It was found that the patients did not return for follow-up investigation. Contributory factors could have been that the patients did not understand their disease, and/or that some medical or paramedical services need to be reorganized. Diagnoses and other associated factors were also studied and related to one another statistically, in order to obtain a clearer understanding of the disease process as it affects individuals admitted to a coronary care unit.
