Nephrology may have quite a lot in common with with palliative care. Examples of this are the conservative therapy of a terminal chronic kidney disease or dialysis termination. Nevertheless, palliative co-care of patients with chronic kidney disease still happens rather rarely. On the one hand, this might be due to lacking experience regarding the benefits and opportunities of incorporating palliative care in nephrology care, on the other hand, palliative care is often misunderstood as pure "end-of-life" care. By highlighting the whole spectrum of palliative care, we aim to promote these two disciplines in order to integrate palliative care services into the nephrological treatment concept at an early stage.
Titel: Symptomkontrolle in der nephrologischen Palliative Care.
Einleitung: Die Nephrologie weist in vielen Aspekten Überschneidungen mit der Palliative Care auf. Beispiele hierfür sind die konservative Therapie einer terminalen Niereninsuffizienz oder die Durchführung eines Dialyseabbruchs. Eine palliative Mitbetreuung von chronisch nierenkranken Patientinnen und Patienten findet jedoch noch immer eher selten statt, einerseits aufgrund von Unsicherheiten hinsichtlich Nutzen und Chancen eines Einbezugs der Palliative Care in der Nephrologie, andererseits aufgrund einer Verwechslung der Palliative Care mit einer reinen «End-of-Life»-Betreuung. Durch das Aufzeigen des Spektrums der Palliative Care sollen die Zusammenarbeit dieser zwei Disziplinen gefördert und palliativmedizinische Angebote frühzeitig in das nephrologische Behandlungskonzept integriert werden können.

Introduction: La néphrologie présente des intersections avec les soins palliatifs sur de nombreux aspects. Le traitement conservateur d'une insuffisance rénale terminale ou l'arrêt de la dialyse en sont des exemples. Cependant, la prise en charge palliative des patients atteints d'une maladie rénale chronique est encore plutôt rare. D'une part en raison d'incertitudes quant à l'utilité et aux chances d'une intégration des soins palliatifs dans la néphrologie, d'autre part en raison d'une confusion entre les soins palliatifs et une simple prise en charge de fin de vie. La mise en évidence de la palette des soins palliatifs doit permettre de promouvoir la collaboration entre ces deux disciplines et d'intégrer précocement les offres de médecine palliative dans le concept de traitement néphrologique.
