Explantation of a fully deployed coronary stent

J Cardiol Cases. 2021 Sep 14;25(3):153-155. doi: 10.1016/j.jccase.2021.08.006. eCollection 2022 Mar.

Abstract

Percutaneous extraction of a freshly implanted stent is rarely reported, as it requires high technical expertise and accurate selection of instruments to ensure a safe retrieval process. Herein, we report a case of successful snaring of an erroneously deployed stent in the aorto-ostial position using the coaxial snare technique after successful recanalization of a complex right coronary artery chronic total occlusion. <Learning objective: Loss of stent position during percutaneous coronary intervention is a common occurrence especially in the aorto-ostial position of the coronary vessels. We present a novel case describing how a stent in aorto-ostial position can be successfully removed by using coronary snares avoiding open surgical removal and providing safe outcomes for the patient.>.
