Requirements for an app from the perspective of patients in plastic and reconstructive surgery

J Plast Reconstr Aesthet Surg. 2022 Jun;75(6):2027-2032. doi: 10.1016/j.bjps.2022.01.027. Epub 2022 Jan 22.

Abstract

Background: Along with the higher availability of Internet, worldwide access and the use of cell phones, the demands of patients for digitalized medical care have increased.

Methods: A questionnaire-based prospective study of 405 patients was conducted to investigate their expectations and requirements of app-based "mHealth" applications.

Results: "Behavioral guidance after surgery," "overview of personal findings," and "contact with the treating physician" were the most important factors. In contrast, "exchange with other patients" seemed to be of less importance.

Conclusion: There is a need for health-oriented apps among patients undergoing plastic and reconstructive surgery, especially with the requirements for individual postoperative care.
