Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2022 Jun;29(29):44678-44692. doi: 10.1007/s11356-022-18826-7. Epub 2022 Feb 8.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the interest toward sustainability and effects of sustainability motivation factors in the management of hotels in the case of Palandöken Winter Tourism Center (WTC). Sustainability motivation factors are of great importance not only for the sustainability of the hotels but also for the sustainable future of WTCs, the winter tourism sector, and even for the cities and the countries. In other words, the motivations of firms regarding sustainability play a role in ensuring economic, ecological, and social sustainability from the individual to the country scale. Therefore, it is critically important to determine the effects of sustainability motivation factors. Since then, a road map can be drawn to strengthen the internal and external motivations that support sustainable practices and eliminate factors that disrupt their motivations. The study was designed as a case study. A questionnaire consisting of Likert-type questions was applied to the managers of the hotels in the Palandöken WTC in January 2020. Quantitative data were gathered from 40 samples and later analyzed using descriptive statistics, regression, and discriminant analysis techniques. As a result, the interests in sustainability, the effectiveness of sustainability motivation factors, the relationship between motivation factors and interest in sustainability, and the differences between respondent groups in terms of their interest in sustainability were determined.
