Sonography of Benign and Malignant Breast Lesions

Radiol Technol. 2021 Sep;93(1):75M-91M.

Abstract

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women and the second most common cause of death in women. Incidence has increased by 0.2% to 0.8% each year since the early 1970s. Therefore, breast imaging is a crucial component of health care, and imaging technologists must have a fundamental understanding of the role of each imaging modality to provide ideal patient care. Diagnostic medical sonography of the breast is important in caring for patients with suspected or known breast disease. This article provides an overview of breast sonography and the sonographic characteristics of benign and malignant breast lesions.
