Case: We describe a case of a 9-year-old boy who presented with a left calf mass consistent with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma involving the Achilles tendon. The patient underwent radical resection of the Achilles tendon and Achilles tendon allograft reconstruction. At 2.5-year follow-up, the child had full ankle range of motion and strength and no signs of disease.
Conclusions: Radical resection of Achilles tendon in the setting of malignancy and reconstruction with allograft is a rare procedure that has not been previously described in the pediatric population. Orthopaedic oncologists can consider this option for the rare malignancies involving the Achilles tendon.
