Hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC), also known as Lynch syndrome, is an autosomal dominant trait and the most common cause of inherited colorectal cancer (CRC). It is characterized by the presence of a strong family history of HNPCC associated cancers involving first-degree relatives with the involvement of at least two generations and at least one case diagnosed before the age of 50.
