Betaxolol is a medication used mostly in managing and treating open-angle glaucoma, essential hypertension, post-myocardial infarction, and chronic stable angina. It is in the selective beta-1 adrenergic blocker class of medications. This activity describes the indications, action, and contraindications for betaxolol as a valuable agent in managing open-angle glaucoma and essential hypertension. This activity will highlight the mechanism of action, adverse event profile, and other key factors (e.g., off-label uses, dosing, pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, monitoring, relevant interactions) pertinent for members of the interprofessional team in the treatment of patients with open-angle glaucoma, hypertension, and related conditions.
