Malaria prevention. Due to the huge difference in risk of infection between tropical Asia and America on the one hand and sub-saharan Africa on the other (ratio of 1 to 1000) and lack of transmission of Plasmodium falciparum in Asia and tropical America, it is now recommended to no longer prescribe chemoprophylaxis in these low-risk areas in the vast majority of cases (conventional stays), retaining the simple adage: Sub-Saharan Africa yes, elsewhere no ! In any case, travelers should be advised to limit the mosquito bites at night (especially repellents but also mosquito nets impregnated and impregnation of clothing) and to signal the tropical stay in case of fever at the return. African migrants being the main target of imported malaria should be informed of the importance of this prevention.
Prévention du paludisme. En raison de l’énorme différence de risque d’infection entre l’Asie et l’Amérique tropicales d’une part et l’Afrique subsaharienne d’autre part (rapport de 1 à 1 000) et de l’absence de transmission urbaine de Plasmodium falciparum en Asie et Amérique tropicales, il est licite maintenant de ne plus prescrire de chimioprophylaxie dans ces zones à faible risque dans la grande majorité des cas (séjours conventionnels) en retenant l’adage simple : Afrique subsaharienne oui, ailleurs non ! Dans tous les cas, on recommande aux voyageurs de limiter les piqûres de moustiques la nuit (répulsifs surtout mais aussi moustiquaires imprégnées et imprégnation des vêtements) et de bien signaler le séjour tropical en cas de fièvre au retour. Les migrants africains étant la cible principale du paludisme d’importation doivent être informés de l’importance de cette prévention.
