Chirality in metal-based anticancer agents

Dalton Trans. 2018 Mar 28;47(12):4017-4026. doi: 10.1039/c8dt00089a. Epub 2018 Feb 26.

Abstract

Chiral natural biological molecules, such as nucleic acids and proteins, guide the research of chiral compounds. Chiral metal-based drugs are currently an interesting and rapidly growing field in anticancer research. This perspective focuses on chiral metal compounds with application in cancer chemotherapy. The different chiral metal-based anticancer agents and the extent to which the chiral resolution affects their biological properties are discussed. This perspective will aid the design of new potent and efficient chiral metal-based anticancer drugs that exploit their unique properties combined with their potential selectivity toward targeted chiral biomolecules.
