Gonorrhea

Abstract

Preview Despite a recent decline in total cases, gonorrhea is on the rise in the adolescent population, particularly in black teenagers. Increases in sexual activity, drug abuse, and gonococcal resistance to antibiotics have contributed to the changing epidemiology of the disease. Dr Hawley explains how prevention and detection of gonorrhea can be improved and describes new, single-dose treatment with oral antibiotics.
