The liaison between care and computers

Nurs Stand. 1990 Sep 19;4(52):34-35. doi: 10.7748/ns.4.52.34.s43.

Abstract

Susan Davis describes the evolvement of her role as liaison nurse in the Royal Marsden's computer department. There is an overview of how this role has helped with the implementation of information technology at grass roots/ward level. The advantages of information technology (IT) for nursing staff are explored and examples are given of how innovations have been helpful in patient care, with rapid availability of blood results for patients on chemotherapy. The importance of support and training for all staff working with IT is also addressed.
