Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to assess acetabular anteversion angle (AAA) from the early stage of Perthes disease to adolescence.

Methods: Twenty-five patients treated conservatively were examined. Changes in AAA from initial to final measurement were compared between the two groups (G-group: Stulberg classes I and II; P-group: classes III and IV).

Results: In the G-group, AAA decreased significantly in the affected hip compared with the unaffected hip, whereas AAA decreased in both hips in the P-group.

Conclusion: Acetabular retroversion may occur only in the affected hip or in both hips; in the latter case, the treatment outcome may be poor.

Keywords: Acetabular retroversion; Cross-over sign; Perthes disease.
