Abstract

Objective: To evaluate diode laser photocoagulation effects in type 1 prethreshold retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in Peking University People's Hospital.

Methods: Retrospective cross-sectional study. Clinical records of the premature infants treated for type 1 prethreshold ROP from the year of 2008 to 2012 were reviewed.

Results: We reviewed 226 infants including 146 male and 80 female. The mean birth weight and the gestational age were 1 386 grams and 30.2 weeks respectively. In all the 384 photocoagulation treated eyes, ROP regressed completely in 381 eyes (99.1%). One eye of zone I ROP progressed to stage 4A. Macula kept attaching after vitrectomy. There was no significant difference of regression rate between Zone I and Zone II of type 1 prethreshold ROP. No severe complications occurred.

Conclusions: Diode laser photocoagulation in type 1 ROP was safe and efficient.
