Abstract

Urinary incontinence (UI) during sexual activity, orgasmic dysfunction, and altered penile morphology are common sexual side effects after radical prostatectomy (RP). However, in spite of research showing that the vast majority of patients experience one or more of these problems, they are unknown to most clinicians. Daytime UI, non-nerve sparing surgery, and erectile dysfunction can help identify patients at risk. Prior to surgery, patients should be informed of the above-mentioned side effects. Patients with manifest symptoms after an RP may benefit from expert sexual counselling.
