Abstract

Bronchial asthma is characterized by recurring symptoms, chronic inflammation of airway, reversible airflow limitation, and bronchial hyperresponsiveness. Lung function and symptoms of asthmatic patients frequently worsen between midnight and early morning. Currently, new drug delivery system based on chronopharmacology has been developed for the treatment of asthma. A night-time single dosing of anti-asthmatic drugs is clinically used for chronotherapy of asthma, which contributes to improve patient's adherence. This review focuses on chronotherapy of bronchial asthma.
