For the sake of modesty, it often takes a long time until patients seek medical attention. Common complaints entail a variety of differential diagnoses including infectious , primary inflammatory, allergic and neoplastic skin disease, systemic diseases, drug side-effects and diseases of the ano-rectum. A systematic approach to diagnosis and treatment, with emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration is therefore essential to achieve rapid and sustained healing.
