Blood collection techniques

Semin Oncol Nurs. 1990 May;6(2):109-16. doi: 10.1016/s0749-2081(05)80143-3.

Abstract

To date, there is no substitute for human blood. It is the only source material for the manufacture of cellular components and fractionated plasma products. Whole blood donation has transversed many risk barriers experienced in early collections and has become a relatively minor and uncomplicated procedure. Blood collection techniques have made significant advances, particularly in recent years, making blood components an essential part of specific cancer treatments.
