The implementation of the Finnish Current Care guidelines has been assessed mainly by questionnaire surveys. Methods for utilizing information accumulating into the electronic patient record were developed in a community health center. A register was created that stored 204573 blood pressure readings from 39570 patients. The readings of 5861 hypertensive patients were evaluated in relation to life style and risk factors of cardiovascular diseases. The mean value of the blood pressure measurements decreased from 152.3/87.4 to 149.9/82.7 over six years. To further utilize patient record data for research purposes interest in the improvement of reporting by software suppliers would be needed.
