Abstract

Objective: To screen differentially expressed microRNAs in bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) during osteoporosis and their function in stem cell differentiation.

Methods: The osteoporosis model was induced by ovariectomy in mice. The differentially expressed microRNAs in BMMSCs during osteoporosis were screened with microRNA microarray chip and their expressions during osteogenesis and adipogenesis were detected by RT-PCR.

Results: Ten differentially expressed microRNAs were detected in BMMSC during osteoporosis. The expression of 5 specific microRNAs altered significantly during osteogenic differentiation and 3 microRNAs altered during adipogenic differentiation.

Conclusion: A serials of differentially expressed microRNAs may be involved in functional defects of BMMSC during osteoporosis.
