Purpose: To evaluate the classification and treatment of mandibular condylar fracture in adults.
Methods: One hundred and eight adults with mandibular condylar fracture were classified into different types, subsequent treatment methods were adopted based on types of fracture.
Results: More than 95% of the patients could recover normal occlusion, and the mouth opening reached over 37mm six months after treatment; no patients had permanent facial nerve palsy and ankylosis of the temporomandibular joint.
Conclusions: Different treatment methods should be applied to different types of mandibular condylar fracture in adults, choosing appropriate treatment method according to the types of fracture is the key to success.
