The title compound, C(7)H(8)N(2)O(2), is almost planar (r.m.s. deviation for non-H atoms = 0.029 Å). In the crystal, inversion dimers linked by pairs of N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds generate an R(2) (2)(8) ring motif.
