Applications of bioelectrical impedance analysis: a critical review

Basic Life Sci. 1990:55:365-74. doi: 10.1007/978-1-4613-1473-8_51.

Abstract

Tetrapolar BIA offers great potential for noninvasive assessment of human body composition because it is safe, portable and easy to use. Additional research is needed in clinical studies among patients in whom body composition and fluid status are impaired. However, appropriate reference methods are required to establish the validity of the BIA method. Critical evaluation of the regional measurement of bioelectrical impedance variables for the assessment of human body composition is needed.
