The percutaneous operative gastrostomy for gastric decompression in major urological surgery

J Urol. 1991 Jan;145(1):100-2. doi: 10.1016/s0022-5347(17)38259-9.

Abstract

When postoperative gastric decompression is necessary a percutaneous gastrostomy tube is an alternative to nasogastric intubation. The percutaneous insertion of a suprapubic bladder catheter is an easy procedure without notable complications that increases the comfort of the patient in the immediate postoperative period. We advocate its use in all major urological abdominal operations.
