Objective: To study the skin toxicity of Xiaoer Reqing massage gel in guinea pigs.
Methods: Acute skin toxicity and skin hypersensitivity tests of the gel were performed in healthy juvenile guinea pigs, and skin irritation test was carried out in healthy juvenile rabbits.
Results: Xiaoer Reqing massage gel produced no acute toxicity or cutaneous stimulation to intact or damaged skin of guniea pigs and rabbits, nor did the gel elicited hypersensitivity response in the intact skin of the guinea pigs.
Conclusion: Xiaoer Reqing massage gel is safe as an adjuvant of acute upper respiratory infection in children.
