Abstract

Postoperative follow-up provides no evidence of prolongation of the prognosis after colorectal cancer surgery. But there is definite evidence of the improvement of surgical outcome if the metastatic lesion is respectable. It is important to detect a recurrence early and in the respectable state. Establishing a good follow-up system is meaningful. The Japanese guideline follow-up planning was compared with the ASCO 2005 and ESMO 2009 surveillance recommendations. Japanese planning is considered to be clearly more rigorous than those of Europe and America and able to discover recurrences early.
