A radical bailout strategy for cancer stem cells

Cell Stem Cell. 2009 Mar 6;4(3):196-7. doi: 10.1016/j.stem.2009.02.008.

Abstract

In a recent issue of Nature, Diehn et al. (2009) demonstrate that breast cancer stem cells (CSCs) maintain lower levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) than their nontumorigenic counterparts. Their studies provide a link between the management of ROS by CSCs and enhanced tumor radioresistance.
