Pre-eclampsia affects pulmonary function in pregnancy

J Obstet Gynaecol. 2007 Oct;27(7):672-5. doi: 10.1080/01443610701667791.

Abstract

Pre-eclampsia remains an enigma despite extensive research. It is a common obstetric disorder and has multi-system ramifications. Previous research has concluded that the parameters of forced spirometry remain unchanged in normal pregnancy compared with non-pregnant controls. This study revealed that pre-eclampsia significantly alters lung function and implies that non-pregnant spirometric normograms may not reliably reflect concomitant pulmonary disease in such women.
