Acute severe functional mitral regurgitation secondary to cocaine-mediated anterior myocardial infarction

J Am Soc Echocardiogr. 2008 Mar;21(3):297.e3-4. doi: 10.1016/j.echo.2007.08.034. Epub 2007 Oct 25.

Abstract

We report a case of acute severe functional mitral regurgitation in a patient with cocaine-related anterior myocardial infarction. Transesophageal echocardiography played a pivotal role in excluding a mechanical complication, and determining the presence, severity, and mechanism of this life-threatening complication.
