[Causes of mental health disorders during pregnancy and in the postpartum period]

Abstract

Pregnancy, delivery and postpartal period are biological phenomena which are influenced by the interaction of numerous physiological, psychological and social factor. The psychological disturbance occurring in pregnancy not only affects the health of the mother, but also it influences the outcome of pregnancy and delivery, as well as the newborn infant. The literature describes various causes of such disturbances. Different schools point out psychodynamic, endocrinologic and psychosomatic causes respectively.
