[Citation analysis and appraisement of Chinese Journal of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases]

Abstract

Objective: To investigate the literature utilization in the field of respiratory medicine through analyzing the quotations of Chinese Journal of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases.

Methods: A bibliometric analysis was performed using the original articles published by Chinese Journal of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases for the period of 2001 to 2005.

Results: (1) The total number of references quoted by the journal amounted to 5345. The mean number of quotations per article was 9.53. (2) The majority of the references was articles in English, which accounted for 76.27%. (3) The self-cited references amounted to 469 and the rate of self-citation was 8.8%. (4) The Price index was 57%, and the half-life was 5.35 years. (5) According to Bradford's law of scattering, there were 1 journal in Chinese and 14 in English in the core field respectively.

Conclusions: The citations of Chinese Journal of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases were from a variety of fields, and the majority was from journals. Articles in English were the mostly cited. The citations were mostly articles published in recent years, which suggests that the articles published in Chinese Journal of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases keep abreast with the advances in respiratory medicine.
