Chickens and eggs: examining the links between mental health and chronic disease

Int J Psychiatry Med. 2006;36(3):263-7. doi: 10.2190/3TNL-VRQC-0BH5-W5X7.

Abstract

Interactions between physical and mental illness are complex. Each may lead to the other; both arise from common antecedents; they may be synergistic or associations may be spurious. There is an expanding evidence base for the efficacy of interventions at the psychological level. Patients' views on their healthcare remain crucial.
