[Article in English, Italian]

Abstract

As epidemiological data demonstrate, dental workers are exposed during their activity to a biological risk that may result in serious damages for their health. Vaccination practice is one of the main instruments for prevention of infectious diseases, and thus an important measure for protection of dental personnel. The authors report current obligatory and recommended vaccinations for health-care workers in Italy, which may be applied to the dental staff. For each vaccine-preventable disease, a comparison with American guidelines is carried out. Vaccines for other infectious diseases, that may be employed for protection of dental personnel, were also considered.
