In a society that is probably the most fast-paced and frenetic society on earth, the practice of medicine is arguably among the most hectic professions. For many physicians, patient loads are increasing and hours are growing longer. Less time is being spent with patients because more time must be spent hassling with business matters and dealing with third-party payors. Our work lives are scheduled and then overscheduled, leaving less time and energy for personal lives.
