This article presents the results of a research project on psychological as well as medical effects of diabetes-education on young children. The education programme influences some aspects of the emotional attitude of children towards their diabetes in a positive way. Significant results are found on three topics: the emotional attitude towards diabetes(care), speaking up about diabetes in the social environment, and taking own responsibility towards diabetes(care). The medical effects tested are not significantly influenced. Children and parents experience (the results of) the education programme commonly in a positive way.
