[Occupational therapy in spinal cord injury]

Abstract

The article presents the data of the application of occupational therapy methods and tools in spinal cord injury. Spinal cord injury is the lesion of spinal cord, which causes the changes of motor, sensor, and autonomic function. After spinal cord injury the patient experiences disorders of motor, sense, bladder and bowel functions, which are the main factors causing disability in daily living. The main goals and objectives of occupational therapy in spinal cord injury are also indicated in the article. Improvement of daily activity and independence of the patients is achieved through application of occupational therapy. Involvement into activity as well as contacts between the members of rehabilitation team and the patient are emphasized in the article.
