Abstract

Leptin, the peptide hormone product of the ob gene, regulates food intake and energy expenditure at the hypothalamic level. Leptin is a trigger for puberty onset in rodents, as a metabolism signals to link reproductive function to the nutritional status, and has a similar effect in childhood growth and development.
