Objective: To study the clinical features of the sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL) in children.
Method: Twenty-one children patients with SSHL and sixty-seven adult patients with SSHL as controls were investigated.
Result: The possible causes were identified in 11 children cases (52.4%) as 4 mumps, 3 upper respiratory tract infections, 2 ototoxicity from aminoglycoside antibiotics, 1 noise exposure and 1 genetic metabolic encephalopathy.
Conclusion: The hearing impairment was more severe and the prognosis was more poor in children with SSHL than that in the adults with SSHL.
