Abstract

Hemoglobin level was the most common factor used in evaluation the iron status and anemia prevalence in population. We used HemoCue method and cyanmethemoglobin method for estimating hemoglobin by capillary blood samples from 280 3-5 years-old-children and vein blood samples from 71 12-13 years-old children, a serial of control blood samples were measured also. The results showed that the two methods had good corelationships in estimating hemoglobin. The results from HemoCue method were higher than the cyanmethemoglobin method by both the capillary blood samples and vein blood samples. The greatness were (18.4 +/- 6.1) g/L by capillary blood samples and (3.4 +/- 4.4) g/L by vein blood samples respectively. The results indicated that in research studies cyanmethemoglobin method should be the best selection. HemoCue method has been found to be easy in operation, less in training and portable size, it can be used in the filed work that the cyanmethemoglobin method was not available. But the results should be adjusted.
