Sex information and education in Poland

IPPF Med Bull. 1971;5(5):1-2.

Abstract

PIP: During recent years Poland has been faced with the problem of inadequate sex education and sex information. They have defined sex education as the inculcation of moral principles and the shaping of human attitudes toward sex. Sex information denotes providing pupils with enough information to allow them to use rational activity and behavior in their sexual lives. Poland has faced the problem of an adult population who grew up with a strict Catholic philosophy toward sex. Educators themselves have difficulty answering questions, although now an attempt is being made to teach sex information from the fourth form on. Sex information is also being given as part of teacher preparation. Television programs offer another method of exposure to sex information for both the adult and youth population of Poland.
