Retrospective study of effects of tubal ligation

Union Burma J Life Sci. 1970;3(3):343-6.

Abstract

PIP: 460 patients sterilized by tubal ligation were sent questionnaires dealing with various postligation complaints. 93 of 460 patients (20%) were found to have some gynecological or emotional complaint. Menorrhagia was the most common complaint (14%), a significant difference (p.001) from its occurrence in control patients. Psychological assessment showed that those patients with chronic neurosis suffer more from menorrhagia and various psychosomatic complaints. Women with 3 or fewer babies before sterilization were significantly more likely (p.001) to develop menorrhagia. 6 patients became pregnant 2 to 5 years after the tubal ligation.
