Abstract

PIP: The blood lymph cell chromosomes of 30 offspring of previous users of gossypol acetate were examined and compared with those of a control group. The fathers of test group members had been previously given oral doses of 20 mg/day gossypol acetate until sperm counts of less than 4 million/ml were achieved (generally 60-90 days after 1st medication), after which dosage was shifted to 40 mg/week. Mean duration of gossypol treatment was 440 days; mean total dosage for this period was 3382.34 mg. Fathers were not fertile until 18 months (average) after termination of medication. Results indicated that when the test group was compared with the control group, no significant differences in chromosome breaks, gaps, and sister chromatid exchange were observed.
