Abstract

Objective: To investigate the effect of the prednisolone on the condylar cartilage regeneration.

Methods: A full-thickness defect without penetrating the subchondral compact bone was made in the condylar cartilage of the adult rabbits, and prednisolone(25 mg) was applied locally. The reparative tissue was observed histologically and histochemically.

Results: The compact bone in the area of the defect of the condylar cartilage showed hyperplasia, and the defect was filled with compact bone at the end of twelve weeks.

Conclusions: Prednisolone is able to repair the defect of the condylar cartilage.
