Tc-99m-labeled RBC scintigraphy and splenic hemangioma

Clin Nucl Med. 2001 Dec;26(12):1022-3. doi: 10.1097/00003072-200112000-00006.

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic value of RBC scintigraphy in the evaluation of possible splenic hemangioma.

Materials and methods: RBC scintigraphy was performed on a patient with an incidental finding of a splenic mass on computed tomographic scanning. Early and delayed planar and SPECT images were obtained.

Results: Delayed images revealed blood pooling of the splenic mass. This finding is similar to the characteristics seen in RBC scintigraphy for hepatic hemangioma.

Conclusion: RBC scintigraphy may be useful in the evaluation of possible splenic hemangioma.
